Welcome
Dear Participants,
We are thrilled to host you for an exciting gathering of experts, researchers, and industry professionals from around the world to participate in the 12th European Symposium on Biopolymers (ESBP 2025).
ESBP2025 is dedicated to advancing knowledge and fostering collaboration in the field of biopolymers. Throughout the conference, you'll have the opportunity to engage in insightful lectures, workshops, poster presentations, and scientific discussions, while also enjoying networking opportunities.
We hope you have a rewarding and inspiring experience. We also encourage you to take some time to explore the beautiful city of Lisbon, rich in culture and history.
Thank you for joining us, and we look forward to making ESBP2025 a memorable and impactful event together!

About the Conference
The European Symposium on Biopolymers (ESBP) is a well-established and successful series of symposia dedicated to explore the recent advances in the field of biopolymers. The symposium’s mission is to bring together experts from diverse fields, including biotechnology, systems engineering, processing and material science to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and provide insights on all topics related to biopolymers, helping to advance the field further.
First established in 2000 in Münster (Germany), the ESBP series has continued to grow in prominence. The 11th ESBP took place in Brno (Czech Republic) in 2023. We are now delighted to announce that the 12th ESBP will be held from October 1st to 3rd, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal, hosted by the NOVA School of Science and Technology (Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa).
The main topics of the conference will include:
Natural biopolymers (PHA, Polysaccharides, Proteins, other);
Chemical and biological pathways and systems engineering for biopolymers production;
Feedstock and biopolymers production circularity;
Biopolymers production engineering (monitoring, optimization, scale-up);
Biopolymers extraction and characterization;
Processing and functionalization of biopolymers;
Biopolymer-based composites;
Biopolymers for biomedical and technical applications;
Biopolymer-based materials end of life management;
Biopolymers’ market and impact (social, environmental);
Machine learning and artificial intelligence applied to biopolymers design.
